Center for Media Research – Nepal (CMR Nepal) is an autonomous, research and policy-oriented, not-for-profit non-governmental policy think tank registered with Nepal Government (DAO Kathmandu Registration #636) and Social Welfare Council (SWC Registration #32438) and is based in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
CMR-Nepal’s main focus is to enhance the knowledge content of policy making and media development by conducting researches aimed at informing Nepal’s policymakers and media stakeholders.
CMR-Nepal’s Vision is ‘to enable all Nepali citizens to access accurate information without hindrance, engage in public discourse without fear, and media to become ethical and professional playing a positive role in the process of democratization; whereas the state facilities the media development and democratic principles on media’.
The mission of CMR-Nepal is ‘to advocate, support and lobby for freedom of opinion and expression on every platform, ethical and professional media, and press freedom’.
CMR-Nepal strongly believes in liberal democracy, human rights and media’s role in strengthening democracy.
- Conduct studies and researches on various aspects of media
- Develop, design, manage and conduct skill development trainings, workshops and seminars for journalists
- Publication of training manuals and research reports in print and electronic formats
- Work and co-ordinate with other similar organizations to work to uplift journalism standards and practices
Overall governance by the Executive Committee, which meets every three months for policy decisions and for monitoring activities, and providing guidance to the Secretariat.
CMR-Nepal members include academicians, practicing journalists and media researchers. Its Executive Board, elected every two years by Annual General Assembly of all members, meets quarterly for policy decisions and supervision of activities carried out by the Secretariat.
Day to day affairs overseen by the Secretariat with the Executive Director as the head of the office.
Mr. Rishikesh Dahal is the chairperson and Mr. Tilak Pathak is the Executive Director of CMR-Nepal.
